The Town of North Brookfield is seeking a Town Accountant, in accordance with MGLs, town policies and by-laws, the MA Department of Revenue and federal law. Reporting to the Board of Selectmen, the Town Accountant is responsible for maintaining and controlling all town expenditures and financial records, including a school district and two enterprise funds, as well as revenue forecasting and documentation, oversight of payroll and warrant preparation, timely and accurate reporting requirements and assisting in budget preparation.
The position will require a thorough understanding of the Uniform Municipal Accounting System (UMAS), GAAP Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB), Department of Revenue (DOR) regulations and applicable Massachusetts General Laws.
Recommended minimum qualifications: bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field, two to five years of municipal experience or financial management, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Knowledge of municipal finance operations and functions is essential. Massachusetts Certified Governmental Accountant training is required with certification within three years.
The job is 30 hours per week, Monday thru Thursday, starting mid- August. Salary to be determined.
