Town of Athol - Assistant Town Accountant

The Town of Athol seeks qualified applicants for the full-time position of Assistant Town Accountant.  Duties include, in part, auditing bills and payrolls for accuracy, ensuring proper accounts are charged and contract specifications are being followed; maintains personnel vacation/sick/LOA records; maintains fixed assets; maintains VADAR (Town’s accounting system) with appropriations and expenses, oversees budget balances for all Town departments; enters and proves the Town’s annual budget, vendor files; assists other Town officials with their budgets and other tasks assigned by Town Accountant. 

Must be able to work independently, have strong computer, written and verbal communication skills.  Associates degree in accounting or business management required; three years’ experience in a municipal finance setting or equivalent combination of education and experience; knowledge of UMAS accounting system and MA General Laws; experience with VADAR preferred. This position is a member of the SEIU Local 888 collective bargaining unit and compensated within Grade 10 of the CBA’s classification plan ($47,910.73 to $57,207.92 annually).
